Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using Open Course ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service, the Google Terms of Service (https://policies.google.com/terms), and any additional terms specific to Actions on Google (https://developers.google.com/assistant/console/policies/general-policies). If you don't agree to these terms, do not use the Service.

2. Eligibility and Account Creation

  • You must be a current University of Michigan student or faculty member with a valid @umich.edu email address.
  • You must be at least 13 years old and able to form legally binding contracts under applicable law.
  • You must sign in using your University of Michigan Google account.
  • You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account and all activities associated with it.

3. Acceptable Use

You agree to use Open Course only for lawful purposes and in compliance with University of Michigan policies. Prohibited activities include:

  • Using the Service for any illegal purpose or in violation of any laws
  • Posting false, inaccurate, or misleading content
  • Interfering with or disrupting the Service or servers
  • Impersonating any person or entity
  • Collecting or storing personal data about other users without their consent
  • Engaging in academic dishonesty or cheating

4. Content Guidelines

Users are responsible for all content they post on Open Course. Content must:

  • Be relevant to academic study groups
  • Respect intellectual property rights
  • Not contain inappropriate or offensive material
  • Not include personal or sensitive information

We reserve the right to remove any content that violates these guidelines.

5. Data Collection and Privacy

We collect and use your data as described in our Privacy Policy. By using the Service, you consent to such data collection and usage.

6. Intellectual Property

You retain ownership of the content you create and post on Open Course. By posting content, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, modify, and distribute your content solely for the purpose of operating and improving the Service.

7. Termination

We reserve the right to terminate or suspend your account and access to Open Course at our sole discretion, without notice, for conduct that we believe violates these Terms of Service or is harmful to other users, us, or third parties.

8. Modifications to the Service and Terms

We may modify the Service or these Terms at any time. We will notify users of any material changes via email or through the Service. Your continued use of the Service after such notifications constitutes acceptance of the modified Terms.

9. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Service is provided "as is" without any warranties, express or implied. We do not guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Open Course and its affiliates shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or relating to your use of the Service.

11. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Michigan, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.
